Excuses, excuses...

Hi all,

I know the writing has been quite scant lately, thanks for hanging in there - I've been adapting to a new routine.

I feel terribly negligent not posting about the rather momentous events of the last 10 days or so, such as the downsizing of the Abbott, AWB, the British bashers in Basra etc., etc...

Like sands in the hourglass, I have some assessments to swot for over the next 3 weeks and will return with some posts of substance for your perusal, so are the days...

Please feel free to browse around TDM's archives in my absence.

Bfn, Magnet.

Something in the air...

Sick to the eyeteeth of those who would have the 'Sphere as their own personal extension of social exclusivity, & one can only assume why, a post about community cohesion is probably overdue.

Maybe it's just in the Blogosphere biorhythms for this week, but it seems like everyone who's anyone is having a go at someone. From armchair parents to armchair foreign ambassadors if you're looking for conflict the 'Sphere's the place to be at the moment.

The centre of much intense & heated debate, RU486 ranks a mention in the Senate this week.

Deafening silence

Me too. Here's the start of another academic year, another Chinese year - no less the Year of the Dog[as opposed to the hair of the dog all you grogbloggers] and exhaustion has already set in. Mao's on the run, the Saint's back to business as usual and the Pigs are flying once again.

Anonymous Lefty decries the state of justice after another shooting by police, and that followed a double shooting by someone, whose identity may never be discovered but is assumed to be the victim of the police shooting.

As Lefty points out, there are some fairly damning facts covered in the mass media, who rely on formulaic solutions to sell mulch, but there is a deafening silence when it comes to other possibilities featuring in mainstream stories.

Good guy/bad guy angles sell newspapers and wrap up loose ends, and old fashioned approaches to selling news have gained popularity with circulation sadly dwindling with the rise and rise of online media and independent media. Despite objective analysis there are still many in the general public who tragically just consume media content whole without questioning the millions of angles or ethics involved in story choices.
