Is it the Christian theme that attracts a certain straight jacket wearing blogger to confrontation of biblical proportions?
A strange twist in the fashion industry - abandoning fashion-sense for common-sense?

Since the dawn of time, women have wrestled with the conundrum posed by the cost of beauty being obligatory discomfort and, of course, the depiction of women's attractiveness and worth being measured by their obedience to whatever society dictates from one flippant, expensive & uncomfortable moment to the next.

So it is with tremendous glee that I embrace the current boho (bohemian, for all of you who were thinking along other lines) clothing trend, which effectively allows me to dress in pajamas (or clothes that look so much like pajamas they may as well be pajamas) all the time and hilariously(in a way only fashion can be), be considered very contemporary and design conscious, whilst indulging, nope - reveling, in some people's worst nightmare (going out with your pajamas on).

In a development which will serve not only to confuse myself, but also the children I have berated for years for screwing their clothes up and clog-dancing on them after I've spent hours ironing, I now pay extra for the said pajama-like clothes (which come in patterns & fabrics that look like they have been pilfered from Great-Aunt Ethel's attic) to be pre-screwed up, thrown in the corner of the room for a week & clogged-danced-on. But hey, I'm saving on Fabulon.

Obviously, there are some for whom, going out in their pajamas poses considerably more of a spectre than others, but then with progressive trends in t-shirt slogans perhaps a clothing deficit in public is not the worst case scenario.

With the force-ten Richter scale effect of the Clark Kent tip from the Man of Lettuce School of Fashion, plus my autumn wardrobe courtesy of the House du Ethel, evidently you don't need to forget your pajamas to be a magnet.

Bloody hell - here he is

Truly, the stuff of nightmares.

Bloggery and back

Today, Dogfight at Bankstown examines illusions, both optical and spiritual & Flutey explores the elusive and illusive as well.

The speculation about the big picture does not stop with the Saint in the Blogosphere tonight, with the Man of Lettuce pondering the will of He of the Holy Whipper Snipper.

It would appear that those of the most high lineage are in for a right royal battle as The Black GST digs in for rights over the country the indigenous people of Australia owned for 40,000 years. Imagine...200 years of back-rent, if they create a precedent, maybe the rest of the 'Stolenwealth' could too...

Possum P.I. appears to be MIA and the Jellyfish embraces the Autumnal Equinox with bewitching fervour.

It looks like not everyone joins the NSW police to play with Morris' water cannon.

Risky business

It is fortunate that there are some schools whose curriculum does not require inclusion of bong classes for Grade 5's and over. Ironically, who better to give proper instruction to the youngsters, than police officers?

The Education Minister, Ljiljanna Ravlich applauds the move & suggested it wouldn't be unusual for a 10-11 y/o to have heard the terms cannabis and bongs and to go home and ask their parents about it.

The program will see police bringing kits to schools to demystify bongs and cannabis and to get kids talking about what cannabis does.

Seriously though, the basis of the initiative is for police officers to offer a potentially preventative message before the rigours of peer group pressure experienced in government high schools takes hold on vulnerable young minds.

Will the move cause a precedent by which the education department can educate children in other illegal and immoral areas also, how to mix up a fit and safe syringe disposal, correct condom use, how to find a reliable fence, the side effects of the methadone program perhaps - all the things necessary to prepare the students for real life, or just government high schools?

With the Howard government offering not a carrot, but a big stick, for independent schools to enforce his new education system US style nationalism guidelines (like daily flag flying, anthem singing and posters of soldiers as a generalized depiction of Australians in order to introduce warm fuzzy images of war in schools), and a government school education system which requires bong classes for ten yr olds, and widespread literacy and numeracy instruction failures, it would seem that parents are rapidly getting put between a rock and hard place about where to send there kids for an education, amidst an era where sole parents are being forced to commit to extra work hours away from the family home.

UPDATE
A Department of Education spokesperson has said the quotes contained in Paul Lampathakis' story on Mar 12, 2006 Bongs in show and tell featured on The Sunday Times website, were never made. The spokesperson also said drug education methods such as those falsely attributed to DET employee Kim Chute, would not fall within the ethical and legal guidelines of the Department and certainly could never be used in educating school children.

Blogday

It's tdm's blogday today, & so, a return to programming as promised...

It has been a very speedy year since starting The Daily Magnet, it is interesting to note the changes in the posts as the year progressed, the decrease in the amount of hours I could dedicate to them, the change in vibe, and the style-changes to what would be perceived in journalism to be a less formal, conversational 'blogger-style' of writing or to those of us who are familiar with Blogosphere practices, maybe it is just more personal and direct.

In any case, it has been a tremendous awakening interacting with you all, finally getting comments from more than just a couple of frustrated, desperate, lonely old net-trolls whose comments I was sorely tempted to keep, just to remind myself at least someone was checking in;}} All your insight through debate and discussion has really supported and advanced my studies and allowed me to see way more of the big picture and the vast potential of these blog contraptions.

Thanks to those who encouraged me to keep blogging at the start, like the always affable and ubiquitous Man that cooks & the voice of good conscience(in lieu of my own ://)...the Saint, and for those who have linked to me during the year & to those wonderful sistas who poured their heart and souls out in the RU486 post...a big 'ruh-spect!' Your shining examples of culturally diverse & alternative community cohesion are the Giant Chrysanthemum on the metaphoric fireworks of TDM's Blogday.

Blogroll update

Hi all,

in my temporary absence I thought I'd give you something more to read.

I have updated the blogroll & put some on it that should have been there ages ago, and put on some other blogs which don't get talked about much but are really innovative and interesting.

If I have missed anyone feel free to email me so I can correct the faux pas immediately. This applies especially all you low-key WA bloggers - lets get some shameless self-promotion happening here!

I will be back on the block on TDM's blogday, March 14 :}}
bfn, Magnet.

btw for anyone who has been having difficulties with TDM's archives and searches not finding archived stories, I have republished so they're much more user-friendly.
