Police appeal for information from the public about evidence found at the Kings Park grave of Corryn Rayney.

More information on Karl Nightingale, who died in WAPOL custody in 2006.

Hit run charge against police officer's son, dropped.

I've heard some reports of daylight savings boycotts, but as yet I haven't seen anything official... thank goodness it's over for another year - whose bright idea was it to make Perth's hot days longer and sunnier??

VicPol release an apology to John de Jong for a roadside drug test they publicized, the results of which, were incorrect.

"Fat Tony' Mokbel has used the fair trial argument to try to prevent his extradition to Australia, on the grounds that yawn-worthy & class-biased crime series, Underbelly, will have prejudiced potential jurors.

Queen of the bike beats, Cileo plugs a bike-powered gig in Brunswick on Saturday.

Zoe trots out her x-rated version to kindly spell out the leadership dilemma for the Libs, who seem to be a little oblivious to the obvious. Is the problem more deeply rooted - could Nick Possum be right? Civil Liberties Australia buys into the debate - calling for the Prime Minister to examine rules and procedures governing how Australia formally declares war.

Belated congrats to the Man that Cooks & Toni on BabySpice. Another belated congrats to eclectic blogger, Pat the Media Dragon, on his Name Day. And from Sydney to Lebanon, the reach of Jozef's name day knows no bounds.

Call me a bit behind the times but TDMs slowly digging its way out of a work-related black blog-hole. Happy SPD to Mac & the rest of the Irish Contingent.

Full moon follies & equinoxial shorts

Johnny Montani was arrested today at Perth Airport by the Major Crime Squad, in relation to a re-trial for the murder of Kevin (Mick) Woodhouse in May 2004. Montani first went to trial in 2006 over the death, but Justice McKechnie dismissed it within 20 minutes.

The Police Commissioner has appealed for people to stop shining high-powered lasers into the cockpit of the police helicopter, 'this is not fun, this is serious,' he said. I wonder how motorists et al feel about the pilot's indiscriminate sweeping with the chopper's high-powered spotlight?

A perfect spot for mineral exploration. FARA have some more Stand-ups planned over the coming weeks. Hats off to them for the one earlier this month outside The Werst - they would have lerved that.

1) Friday 4/4 at 12-1pm outside Kingfisher Gallery, 49 Colin Street, West Perth (enter off Richardson St)
2) Sunday 6/4, 9am - on the Burrup Peninsula, Half way along Hearsons Cove rd.
3) Sunday 6/4, 12 noon - at the Perth Sun Fair Festival, Oak Lawn, UWA (off Hackett Drive) - an environmental fair with loads of interesting stalls and entertainment.

Another WAPOL officer arrested on child sex offences, yesterday.

Last week the Acting Deputy Commissioner announced a move which will see WAPOL officers manning children's crossings.

A local stick-up crew caught on camera for targeting the Home Building Society on four occasions around the metro area. Good descriptions & footage of the mid-week offenders would suggest their days of running amok are numbered. Police didn't release the total amount netted in the robberies.

Very sadly, the Green Machine threw in the towel this week, deciding to leave the world of pro-boxing on a high note. Big ups to the Machine for the 25-3 win/loss ratio.

(NB this hip hop track GreenLeaves by Teknish has a few teensy weensy profanities)

More wild & woollies in the Port town when the Spring Equinox coincided with the full moon. For those who don't know Freo's traditional population is comprised of a unique contrast of hippies and crooks, & is currently being over-run with yuppies in Perth's land grab.

Easter greetings

For those looking for the findings of the coronial inquest into the death in WA police custody of Karl Woods, I have a pdf I'll see to hosting but in the meantime just email me - add is on the profile page.

Mick's Mudcake appeal

I know you tube downloads are a bit of a drag for some of you, so this one is a compromise between footage and none - a series of stills of The Stones as they play a classic.

Nightingale death in custody inquest ends

The inquest into the death in custody of a 35 y/o Perth male nurse concluded today, with findings to be deliberated for some weeks yet.

Karl Nightingale had his life support turned off two days after suffering brain damage from a lack of oxygen and cardiac arrest. Questions about positional asphyxia arose once again for WAPOL, who hand-cuffed & arrested KN for wandering dazed and confused near traffic. Two cuts on the back of his head indicated he may have suffered a concussion immediately prior to the arrest, as a result of a minor traffic accident on Dixon Rd in Rockingham.

The court heard that a senior officer had been concerned about supporting the arresting officer, Snr Const. Aiden Sloan, who was involved in the arrest of 35 y/o father of 3, Karl Woods, who died in police custody in Parmelia only four days before KN's arrest.

It was revealed during the hearings that the senior officer - an Acting Inspector with over 30 years of service, failed to call forensics to attend the scene. He blamed his up-line for failing to instruct him to do so in his original statement to IA, but then later signed another statement from which the allegation had been removed.

Under cross-questioning he claimed to have been threatened by Internal Affairs in his early dealings with them during the investigation. Most of the 8 arresting officers have now left WAPOL.

Short order

The board of The West Australian newspaper has threatened to throw in the towel if Seven's Kerry Stokes gets two seats on the board.

Today the WA child protection unit announced the culmination of a 4 month operation which led to the charges against 18 men for child pornography. Those arrested included 2 school teachers & 2 police.

One of two pedophiles gaoled for abducting a 14 y/o boy for 3 weeks, sexually assaulting and threatening to kill him, feels his 23 year sentence is excessive and has launched an appeal.

In a state where an assault with a tissue box or telephone would be decidedly warm & fuzzy terms of endearment, one can only look in wonder at the community service orders handed out to 3 Vic detectives for 'bashing' a stick-up guy, allegedly, because they wanted to to get hold of his firearm...
OPI released the tape of the interrogation.

Missing weapons, apparently, are causing a bit of a stir westward also.

No wonder Underbelly seemed like such insipid, sensationalist, stigmatizing crapola.

Anyone who has a link like Zen in Prison has to be worth taking a look at & Enigma wrote the book on diversity - just ask her.

X factor jails girl's killer for 15 years

On Thursday a man currently serving time for organizing the murder of 21 y/o Claire Garabedian, was sentenced to serve time till 2023 after a retrial heard by Judge Peter Blaxell.

Martin Graeme Coates, was said to have been the instigator of the murder plot according to another accomplice, 'Mr X,' who was given a deal in exchange for his evidence. X said Coates paid him $2000 & supplied three doses of heroin to kill Garabedian. When all three failed to end the young woman's life, Thomas Nicholls smothered her. At the time of her death in a dingy Rivervale motel room Ms Garabedian was a crown witness set to give evidence against Coates & his then partner, Amanda Hoy, in an assault case.
